WINES OF CHILE
Join us this Friday night for sampling two lovely
wines from Chile.

White-
Apaltagua Reserva Chardonnay 2009-  This
Chardonnay has a golden color and is fresh and
clean to the nose.  It is characterized by notes of
apple, melon and peach..  In the mouth, it is
crisp, dry and refreshing.  It has a nice  acidity.
The finish is relatively long, with melon and
peach flavors lingering.  This is a "naked
Chardonnay" which means it has not been in
oak.  Serve with grilled salmon, medium -bodied
cheeses, light chicken and pork dishes.

Red
Apaltagua Reserva Carmenere 2008-  Made from
100% Carmenere grape which is considered the
"lost Bordeaux" variety,  as it was originally
planted in Bordeaux, but was abandoned there
because it was too late ripening for the
Bordeaux climate.  Thankfully, the Carmenere
variety was imported to Chile where it not only
survives (because of the longer growing
season) but makes an exceptionally good wine.
It shows a spicy, plummy nose and ripe,
berryish fruit on the palate.  Minimal intervention
and gentle handling have been used to preserve
the quality and character of the fruit.,  This wine
is an impressive introduction to the Carmenere
grape.  Pair with pizza, grilled burgers, lasagna,
grilled red meat such as lamb, ostrich or duck.

Cheers!
